Until her escapades in Italy, Denise Hummel, had been a nationally recognized litigator and mediator in the employment law arena. She was named one of the Top Twenty Young Attorneys in the United States by the American Bar Association in 1992. One of her legal positions: a jurisdiction of Western Europe, Bermuda, Cuba and Iceland.
Why such a dramatic change? During her three-year sabbatical from American life, Denise cultivated a long-time passion that had lain dormant through much of her adult life. She started to write voraciously.
First about her family's life in Italy and the contrast to American society, then about travel in general. Her prolific writing led to opportunities in the writing and travel world that were previously unknown to her. There may be a few people who might not leap at the chance to trade in their professional caps for a life of flying, yachting, parasailing, wining and dining around the world, but only a very few, and Denise Hummel is not one of them.
She is now utilizing her undergraduate degree from Barnard College, Columbia
University, her studies at the University of Florence, and her law degree from
the Washington College of Law, as well as her vast experience in the travel and
business world, to become part of one of the most exciting challenges of the
travel publishing world: She helps to create, edit and market an on-line travel
magazine,
JUST THE PLANET designed
to reach beyond the boundaries of the traditional travel publication, eschewing
the usual perfunctory prose and tiny photographs,
to embrace inspired writing, independent commentary, luxury travel with a conscience
and gorgeous photography. A magazine where young and old travelers or those who
just fantasize about traveling, are absorbed in a visual and literary feast of
luxury destinations, food, wine, trade winds, mountain peaks, glistening shores,
diverse languages and cultures, entrancing smells, fanciful textures. A magazine
to guide you through planning your own luxury travel experience or inspire your
dreams.
As one General Manager of a world-class resort has commented, “Ms. Hummel treats us to her good humor, hotelier expertise, and sensuous photographs, while capturing in prose the spirit of a destination.” Or, as set forth by a colleague, and alas, a competitor in the travel publishing industry, “Ms. Hummel speaks for those who covet romantic, idyllic travel experiences world-wide.”
Denise has written countless travel-related articles, has been quoted and been covered by the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Denver Post, the Denver Business Journal, the New York Daily News, WVIP Cable Network, and NBC and was recently an honored speaker at the International Institute for Peace Through Tourism Global Summit in Pattaya, Thailand, where she spoke on the image restoration and recovery of destinations affected by terrorism and natural disaster.
